Ferriana has been coming along really nicely since she returned for training this summer. Today Kimberly Hale Photography got some lovely shots of her working on the flat and hopping over some small fences.
I love these headshots, the first one she is excited and looking for her next fence to jump.
In this headshot she looks so focused and powerful.
We started over fences working with this crossrail. Ferriana was a bit strong, she feels like she's overdue for a cross country school.
Rizzo likes to help and be of assistance. I don't notice her when I'm riding, but I get a kick out of the photos later and the expressions on her face as she giddily runs along with the horse and watches the jumps over her shoulder.
We also hopped over the swedish oxer a couple times. It was set very close to the arena fence, so Ferriana had to turn in the air to get over it and make the corner. Luckily this is not a problem for this althlete.
When we were done we walked over to the gate, opened it, and headed back to the barn. I often joke that every good dressage horse should open gates. All my horses know how, mostly because I'm lazy and would rather ride back to the barn. I often cool them out walking in the front fields, too, and it's much easier to open the gate from horseback than to dismount, open the gate, remount, and then ride out.
You can see the different approaches the dogs have to assisting with the gate. Rizzo likes to be right in the middle of things, Pascal has a more cautious approach with this horse - he knows Ferriana means business. So Pascal politely waits on the other side of the gate.
