Abbe Ranch With Obie
Last week I was able to attend the Abbe Ranch eventing clinic in Larkspur, CO. I rode Obie, the Friesian cross in the beginner novice group. It was Obie's first time seeing and jumping solid cross country fences, his first time galloping in the open, first time through water, first time in a start box, and the first time he had been stabled overnight at show grounds. I was so proud of him! We definitely had some green horse moments where he leaped over small fences because he wasn't sure how tall they were but he did it with panache, braids flying in the air. The first morning was sort of a surprise, we awoke to 3 inches of snow in Parker at my client's place where we were staying. The snow melted fast at the grounds, though, and we did dressage in the morning session, then cross country for the remaining sessions. By the end of the two days we were tired and there was a lot of weather including a spectacular rainbow as we drove home.
