Wednesday this week we went trail riding up Red Feather Lakes Rd. and parked at the Mt. Margaret trail head. I rode Highboy, who hadn't been ridden in at least a week but was very eager to get out on an adventure. Joan rode Darby, who always spends his trail ride trying to compete with Highboy's big power walk. Alice rode Beauty, and managed to save her tack from going down in the water crossings (Beauty loves to roll in water). Jasi rode Rain in a great quiet ride.
We started out on the Mt. Margaret trail, but took all the left turns available to us. This somehow put us at Dowdy Lake, a truly gorgeous place! There were huge boulders in the middle of the lake in different spots which appeared to have been artistically placed there by a giant. The pockets of trees and sandy trails around the perimeter made for an incredibly scenic ride.
We took the horses into the water to enjoy splashing around, where Darby and Highboy promptly got into a splash-fight that soaked Rain. Some video of our playing in the water can be seen here:

This was such a fun adventure of a trip that we decided we absolutely must go back again soon!
