Trail Riding Weekend

Eagles Nest on Friday with Joyce and Khreed, Carol and Shambhu, Joan and Darby, and me on Tao.

This was Tao's first time getting into the water and he was very brave.  The last trail ride we did had an option to get into the water, but Tao couldn't muster the courage to do it.  He then went home and thought about it for a week or two, and by the time we got to this water crossing he had decided water was safe.  This horse is such a thinker.  If you fight with him you can easily end up in a huge argument and mistakenly think he's stubborn when he really just needs more time to consider and think about the situation.  Because I gave him the opportunity to ponder the water over a trail ride or two before I insisted he get in, he entered happily and quietly.

Saturday at Lory State Park with Jasi and Cosmo, Sara and Dewey, and me with Tao again.

Fason went for a ride at home with his little buddy, Cosmo around the arena and then pastures.

Labor day fun at Soapstone Prairie with Kim H and Rain, Sara and Dewey, Jasi and Cosmo, Joan and Darby in the Bua saddle (and LOVING it!) and I rode Highboy who was steady, led most of the way but was well behaved assisting the other horses, and opened nearly every gate.  Even the tricky one, he shoved it with his nose for me and held it for all the other horses to pass through.  It's taken some time, experience, and training, but he has become a truly great trail horse.
