Sweetpeacefuldream at the Fun Show

Today the Bit of Honey crew went to my friend Trisha's for her fundraiser show.  It was to raise money for Front Range Exceptional Equestrians, the therapeutic riding group whose horse show I judge at the Budweiser Events Center every summer during the Larimer County Fair.  We had a blast enjoying the low-key fun day!

Some of the events included typical birthday party games, but horseback.  We competed in the toilet paper pairs, where you and your partner each hold the end of a strip of toilet paper and whichever pair is left with their paper in tact the longest wins.

Miss Pea and I won the egg and spoon class, where I rode one-handed, holding a spoon with an egg in it in one hand.  We walked, trotted, stopped, reversed, backed, and even cantered without dropping the egg!  Everyone was impressed with Miss Pea's work neck reining and on a loose rein.

She trotted the barrel racing pattern and won that class as well, and even surprised everyone by riding the pizza box race so well!  In the pizza race we trotted up to a barrel, picked up a pizza box, and then trotted back to the finish line, pizza delivery style.

After we finished the fun classes, a group of us went out to the field and played on the little, beginner friendly cross country course.  Miss Pea has never schooled cross country before, but she figured it out very quickly!  We went with my friend Sara who was riding Rain the paint mare, and we did it as a little pair pace.  After just a few times experimenting, Miss Pea was hopping over the irrigation ditches like an old pro.  I would have loved to train her for eventing for the makeover, but we had a short time period in which to work (four months instead of the ten months that many of the the other competitors have had).  I didn't think it was fair to her to try preparing for a triathalon in that abbreviated time frame, so we are just going to compete in show jumping in Kentucky.   Today however, after seeing her blast through the barrel pattern, ace the trail course, and rock out on cross country, I predict Miss Pea has a great future in just about any discipline.  She could even work a side job as a pizza delivery horse.
