Trailriding in Boulder

This past weekend I enjoyed a mini-vacation and took Highboy and Miles with me to a friend's house near Boulder.  We had much better weather down there than they did in Wellington (30 mph wind, anyone?).  We did some riding around the ranch, and also went on about an eight mile ride at Boulder Valley Ranch with another friend who has a Haflinger.

While on our longer ride we encountered thousands of prairie dogs, all of whom were bold and brazen in chattering while trying to intimidate us with their plump little physiques waddling briskly about the holes which led to tunnels beneath the ground.  Highboy thought this was great, he stared at the many rotund rodents with a curious expression as though it were an incredibly amusing television show.

We also encountered a small field of cattle.  While walking through this section of the trail Highboy discovered that if he turned abruptly to stare down a cow, that it will generally move away from him.  Highboy was pretty sure this was a cue to give chase, but since we hadn't actually been invited to move these particular cattle I redirected him back to the designated trail.

We also spent some time playing in the water, always one of Highboy's favorite past times.

There were plenty of wooden bridges to cross on the trail as well.  Highboy was happy to lead through most of the ride, including over the bridges, but I was able to get a little video the one time he allowed someone else to go first.

Our evenings were spent hanging out at Carol's place. Miles loves to go with me visiting friends since he's allowed on some select furniture, and nothing says "welcome" like your own comfy dog couch.
